DASY:

Housing Solutions for Unfavourable Situations

WHAT DESIGN CAN DO CONTEST (2016)

Work Team: Ánxela Barros, Adrián Coira, Ana Cotelo,Manuel de la Fuente y María Prieto.

This project idea was born as a solution research for the refugee camps increasing. Having in mind the difficulties that appear when a lot of people have to be hosted we tried to create an innovative solution, attending to the basic needs as hygiene and privacy. That’s why our design is based on four bases: Assemble Easiness, Integration, Versatility and Adaptability.

ASSEMBLE EASINESS - MODULAR DESIGN

Dasy is designed to optimize the transport and to be assembled easily. It’s modular, so it's length can be adjusted according to the situation.

Assemble mode:

1. The boxes are placed over the high base.

2. The boxes are opened to display the bed’s surface.

3. Guide rails are placed.

4. Finally, with the blinds' system closed, the shelter is ready for being used.

INTEGRATION

Dasy is designed to integrate itself in the environment, to avoid being a separation object for the refugees. Instead, it’s made for being in the city centre without stand out, to look as much as possible to another house.

It’s adaptable to urban and rural spaces, besides the refugee camps.
